On Music
Two people might hear the same song differently. That said, to say that music taste is relative is to say that the extremes of emotions are too . At all; not because the person's emotions aren't there, but because they are always different. Everyone is from a different world.
I do not believe that, because it is tantamount to saying that human emotion cannot be shared, ever. I do not believe that humans are so limited.
If you do not love a flavor of music, it is because you do not want to. I would suggest that you wait until you do (something that may sometimes take a lifetime, I fear) before you try to listen to anything, even songs that you've already heard and would be willing to listen to again and again. To ease yourself into it, you have to be at least a little bit willing. For music to merely be pleasant to the ears is for it to not be any of the other things that give it emotional meaning. All art is like that.
I see a lot of people that don't even think about doing things this way. Not because they listen without feeling; because they listen without knowing feeling.
What makes somebody an artist, what makes music truly lovable, is that they learn to open up to those special moments of melancholy, joy, and everything in between.
