The sunset looks the way it does because it contains all of the darkest colors. When you see the twilight after the sunset you aren't seeing colors anymore, only shades and speckled dots, but you still imagine that it has colors. Then you are seeing impossible azures and oranges and blacks all still mixed together.
There's something messy about people, like that. Perception is a matter of is and isn't. It's something that doesn't just end when you stop seeing something. Speaking for myself, the sunset is painted in impossible colors. It's an illusion. Nothing is permanent. No sunset could ever be the same.
Well, people are kind of like illusions too. You don't just see the person. You see the impression that they leave on the chair. You see a billion expectations, none of them consistent with the being that is.
You don't get to see how lives end. Not really. It's all behind the curtains. But every sunset still ends.
I still just wish I could see my favorite sunset a second time.
